Green design and packaging function analysis (Part I)

now, the era of packaging designers designing only by their own feelings of formal beauty is over. With the progress of the times, the design concept has developed from "people-oriented" to "life environment oriented", "green life" is rapidly taking shape, and the packaging design closely related to life has also been injected with green connotation. Based on the packaging function, this paper discusses the connotation of green packaging, and studies the current situation and future development trend of green packaging design. Finally, green printing, which is closely related to green packaging, is briefly discussed

preface

the "green life" mode with "protecting the environment and advocating nature" as the core is rapidly taking shape, so people put forward new requirements for packaging design, hoping to design for human life environment. On this premise, it is proposed that the new packaging - green packaging should have the connotation of "4r1d": that is, the implementation of packaging reduction, packaging should be easy to recycle, energy recovery, large container refilling and use (Refill), and packaging waste can be degraded [1]. This has also led to changes in industries related to green packaging, such as the printing industry, which is now vigorously studying and developing green printing materials and the corresponding green packaging printing process

1 packaging function and connotation of green packaging

throughout the packaging development in economically developed countries, green packaging has become the mainstream of new packaging design. The development of green packaging has become the top priority of the packaging industry, and has become a hot topic in academic circles. However, how can we turn green packaging from concept to design and then to reality

let's first look at the connotation of green packaging. Green packaging refers to the packaging based on science and technology of Royal DSM group in the Netherlands, which can be recycled, recycled or degraded, and will not cause public hazards to human body and environment in the whole life cycle of products

let's review the five basic functions of packaging in modern living environment [2]: (1) unit function: the capacity, weight and number of each package should be limited, which should be considered and determined as a whole in connection with the use purpose or operation mode of each different item; (2) Maintain chemical function: it refers to that the items in the package can be guaranteed not to be damaged by the outside world; (3) Transportable function: packaging makes items that are not easy to handle become easy to handle items; (4) Usage function: the packaging should consider how to make it convenient for users to use the items in the packaging, and prepare necessary accessories; (5) Connotative function: This is the function of conveying the content and value of packaging itself in circulation, sales, purchase and use. It is an important aspect of the appearance and image of packaging

through the comparison of the five basic functions of packaging and the definition of green packaging, there are certain requirements differences between them. Realizing the five functions of packaging involves using the existing resources and materials on earth for processing. Creating a packaging design with perfect functions can not guarantee that it will not become a burden on the environment after being used and discarded, but it is also against our original intention to talk about environmental protection without realizing the packaging function. Therefore, it is not our goal to solve or realize some functions of packaging in isolation. Based on the viewpoint and method of ecology, it is the responsibility of every designer to reasonably realize these functions, and pay attention to creating the potential change and height of these two packaging films that are beneficial to the environment and human beings while designing packaging. These two packaging films exceed the ecosystem of ASTM standards d2221 and d6653 respectively

to sum up, we can clearly know the connotation of 4r1d, which shows that green packaging is an ideal packaging, and it takes a process to fully meet its requirements. We need certain methods and standards to quantify the target system of green packaging and formulate the grading standards of green packaging, so as to facilitate operation and achieve the goal in stages. Specific and effective green packaging classification standards need to be studied and discussed by people of insight

2Development of green packaging design

now, focusing on reducing the impact on the environment during the production process, use process and after abandonment of packaging, we briefly talk about the design progress of green packaging in recent years

2.1 develop packaging design in the direction of saving materials

on the basis of ensuring the realization of the basic functions of packaging, reform excessive packaging, develop appropriate packaging, try to reduce the consumption of packaging materials, reduce packaging costs, save packaging material resources, and reduce the production of packaging material waste [3]

30 (50) parts by weight of broken pieces of PE hollow blow molding products. One of the characteristics of this design is the pursuit of simple and simple production materials and packaging images. For example, the outer packaging of condiments designed and launched by Japan Ajinomoto company is made of white single corrugated paper, and the label printing is also plain

2.2 develop packaging design towards natural biological packaging materials

natural biological materials, such as paper, wood, bamboo woven materials, hemp, reed, crop stems, straw, wheat straw, etc., are easy to be decomposed in the natural environment, do not pollute the ecological environment, and can be regenerated with low cost, so they can be used for packaging

for example, Swiss designers designed a white gift paper bag, which adds the seeds of trees in the process of paper manufacturing, so that after being discarded, in addition to the decomposition of the paper itself, the seeds inside have the opportunity to take root and sprout in the soil

2.3 develop packaging design towards reusable and renewable packaging materials

the reuse and recycling of packaging materials is the most practical step in the development of green packaging materials today, and it is the most active waste recycling method to protect the environment and promote the recycling of packaging materials [3]. Recycling is a good way to solve solid waste, and has become an effective way to solve material sources and alleviate environmental pollution in some countries

however, fundamentally speaking, the reuse and recycling of packaging materials only prolong the service life of some packaging materials and improve the regeneration and utilization rate of resources. When they have completed their service life, there are still problems of waste disposal and environmental pollution

2.4 develop packaging in the direction of degradable packaging materials. 2. Experimental motor brain can't count on the Internet. Developing degradable plastic packaging materials and gradually eliminating non degradable plastic packaging materials are the general trend of world science and technology development and one of the hot spots of material research and development [3]

degradable plastic packaging materials not only have the functions and characteristics of traditional plastics, but also can be split and degraded in the natural environment through the action of microorganisms in nature or the action of sunlight after completing the use task, and finally return to nature in a non-toxic form
